Pickleball Study Guide
Extra Credit - Write your favorite OG P.E. memory on the bottom right hand corner, on the back of the test. Keep it a secret... you can earn the points that other students gave up by not looking at the study guide.
An official game of Pickleball is played to
11 points; however, a team must win by 2 points.
We play a PICKLEBALL tournament based on Wins and Losses.
There are five hits: smash, drive, lob, drop shot and dink.
Pickleball rules depend heavily on badminton.
SERVING - When serving, the serving team straddles the service line when serving. The serve is made underhand. The paddle must pass below the waist, and the server must hit the ball in the air on the serve. The server is not allowed to bounce the ball, and then hit it.
The SERVE is made to the DIAGONAL court and must clear the non-volley zone. The serve may not touch the net. Even if a serve lands in the proper service court it is a FAULT if the ball touches the net.
At the start of each new game, the first serving team is allowed only one fault before giving up the ball to the opponents. Thereafter, both members of each team will serve and fault before the ball is turned over to the opposing team.
You serve from the RIGHT when your score s EVEN, and from the LEFT when your score is ODD.
To VOLLEY a ball means to hit the ball in the air without first letting it bounce. All volleys must be done with the player's feet behind the non-volley zone line. It is a fault if the player steps over the line on his/her volley follow through.
Non-Volley Zone - the area from the net to the short serve line. (purple Line) A player is not allowed to volley (hit the ball on the fly) in that area. You may enter the non-volley zone if the ball bounces there first.
Double Bounce Rule - Each team must play their first shot off the bounce. That is, the receiving team must let the serve bounce, and the serving team must let the return of the serve bounce before playing it. After the "two" bounces have occurred, the ball can be either volleyed or played off the bounce.
A PICKLEBALL that lands ON THE LINE is considered "GOOD" or "IN"
SCORING - A team shall SCORE a point ONLY WHEN SERVING.
A player who is serving shall continue to serve until his/her team makes a fault.
An official game of Pickleball is played to
11 points; however, a team must win by 2 points.
We play a pickleball tournament based on Wins ( W ) and Losses ( L ).
When you are done with your game, please place the paddles and ball back on the cart.
Please.... NEVER step over the net! Always walk around the standards and net to get to the other side.
